Vibrant - Red Currant - Crunchy
Chat Fou, the crazy cat, is Grenache, Cinsault and a splash of Clairette from south-facing granite and gneiss slopes in the Ardeche. It is labelled Vin de France rather than Cotes du Rhone because the appellation would not have it: red and white grapes, part whole bunch, fermented together on wild yeasts in open concrete tanks, then left on its lees in concrete for a year or more. Nothing pulled out, nothing added but a whisper of sulphur at bottling. The result is bright and crunchy, red fruit with a lick of texture. A wine for drinking rather than discussing, with something of a following.
